KARACHI – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) raised eyebrows with special Eid greeting video featuring national players as fans failed to spot former skipper Babar Azam.
Babar Azam’s absence of former captain and star batsman Babar Azam sparked surprise and disappointment among cricket enthusiasts on social media.
The clip shows players like captain Salman Ali Agha, Mohammad Rizwan, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Haris, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Saif Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan, and Aamer Jamal. Yet, Babar Azam’s absence raised questions, especially since he remains one of the most popular figures in Pakistan cricket despite being dropped from the recent T20 series against Bangladesh.
Fans quickly took to social media to express their dissatisfaction. Many admitted they had watched the video specifically to hear Babar’s Eid message but were left disappointed. Some described the moment as “heartbreaking.”
The clip included players such as Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi, who were also not part of the Bangladesh squad, which further fueled speculation about Babar’s exclusion.
Cricket Board has not yet provided any official statement explaining Babar Azam’s absence, leading to rumors and debates online. Some social media users speculate this may be due to internal conflicts or a deliberate oversight by the board.
Pakistan recently defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in T20 series held in Lahore. The team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh again in July for another T20 series, followed by a white-ball series in the West Indies from late July to mid-August.
